Graduate Medical Education
Saint Joseph Hospital is the oldest private teaching hospital in Colorado. In 1893, our medical staff voted to make provisions for a resident physician and in 1914 Saint Joseph was among the first programs in the nation to be approved by the American Medical Association.
Over the years, our residency programs have earned a reputation for excellence and our Residents have been some of the best entering their discipline and are recruited from all over the country. Our trainees have been and continue to be our programs' strongest attribute. The faculty is diverse in experience and interest. Across our four residency programs we offer diverse experiences that include urban and rural practices, team-based care, strong clinical training and research opportunities. Our hospital utilized the Lean process improvement methodology and we involve residents in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Local employers covet our graduates. We enjoy full accreditation from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and have been commended by that body for our work.
Saint Joseph Hospital continues to be the largest private teaching hospital in Denver, and we are committed to providing high quality care to our diverse patient population. Today, more than 100 residents are in training in our four accredited programs:
- Family Medicine Residency Program
- Internal Medicine Residency Program
- Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency Program
- General Surgery Residency Program
